Letterhead - Flanagan

  1. LETTERHEAD: Flanagan - A pen and ink drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It was a Letterhead designed for Graham Flanagan.

At the time when I made this drawing I had difficulty coming up with a specific amount of money to ask for from a client who asked me to do a drawing for them, it all depended on who was asking.

Recently I read an article about the difficulty that Thomas Edison had putting a dollar value on his many inventions. When Western Union wanted to buy his Ticker-Tape Machine he struggled to come up with a figure. In the privacy of their home his wife suggested asking $20,000 but Edison thought that was too exorbitant.

Finally, when he met with the Western Union reps they saw the difficulty he had naming a figure, so they suggested $100,000 . . .Edison learned a lesson; Let the buyer make an offer first, most of the time they will offer more than you were going to ask.

Eventually I also learned that lesson.
